It is sometimes in a year when I can head off to destinations as beautiful as Cape town and thank God for it’s existence. The placement of the city surrounded by the most breathtaking views of the mountains and it’s beautiful British architecture along with the stellar maintenance, make it one of the most iconic cities to visit. If you haven’t been to the city, you have no idea what you’re missing. It’s rich in culture, heritage, history, landscaping and architecture. It is so well maintained that it can give some of the world’s top cities a stiff competition.
I am staying at the Westin Hotel while I am here and every day I get up to this beautiful morning.
And while I am relaxing after a full day of activity, let me share with you my first day at this beautiful city.
Before even stepping into the city I had heard that the absolute must do’s while visiting Cape town are :
The Table mountain
Cape of Good Hope
Robben Island
Stellenbosch
I had to try these and add some more as my own list of to dos.
So Day 1 started with me and hubby heading to Table mountain. I had these huge plans of hiking the trail, which faded soon after I saw how enormous they were. Like any other tourist we went ahead and took the cable car which is a lovely experience in itself as you get to see some lovely views on the way up. The cable car’s floor rotates a full 360 degrees to let you see the entire span. I of course, went crazy clicking pictures.
On top of the mountain is the preserved Mountain National Park, which is home to over 1500 species of fynbos( rock rabbits). It’s been a protected area for over a 100 years. Interestingly, the table mountain was formed about 600 million years ago under the sea. Yes, this entire area was under the sea! The movement of glaciers produced the flat table top. Infact, the whole city of Cape town is reclaimed land.
Once on top of the table mountain you can do self or guided walks, click pictures or just soak in the breathtaking views. There is also a small open restobar for people to grab a quick beer and soak in the atmosphere, if they so please to do. We were lucky to get a beautiful, clear day at the mountain, otherwise if it’s cloudy the whole trip can go for a toss.
Signing Off Until Tomorrow, Stay tuned for my next Experience :)!!
