How To Practice Beginners Chakra Meditation

How To Practice Beginners Chakra Meditation

A few weeks back, I had shared how to teach kids about the Chakras in your kids . Today’s post is all about how to do it.

As you may know already that our body has many chakras or energy vortexes, but the seven main ones lie on the spine. Mooladhara, Swadisthana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddhi, Ajna and Sahasrara. Each of these chakras have their own beej mantras, their colours and their symbols.

Let’s learn how to activate these chakras.

Position-

Sit cross legged or in any comfortable position. Note that the spine needs to be straight. Close your eyes and keep your hands in gyan mudra on your lap.

Take a few deep breaths in and out from your nose before starting. Make sure you are wearing clean clothes and clean quiet and environment when you sit down to meditate.

Mooladhara– Located at the base of the spine, the beej mantra to awaken this chakra is ‘LAM’. You start your meditation from here. Initially, when you start practicing chakra meditation you can use two fingers to guide you. Later, with practice you will be able to guide around with your mind. Put two fingers at the base of the spine and chant the beej mantra, 7-8 times concentrating all your thoughts to this point. You will feel heat being generated here.

Move on and guide the fingers slightly above to the Swadisthana Chakra which is- located two fingers below the navel, the beej mantra to awaken this chakra is ‘VAM’. Chant the beej mantra 7-8 times before moving on.

Next is the Manipura Chakra which is- located above the navel, the beej mantra to awaken this chakra is ‘RAM’. Move your fingers here and again chant the beej mantra 7-8 times before moving on.

The next chakra is the Anahata Chakra– located in the centre of the chest, the beej mantra to awaken this chakra is ‘YAM’. You should repeat the beej mantra 7-8 times again to awaken this chakra. Chant these mantras aloud and sometimes doing a group creates a lot of positive energy in the room.

Further on, located in the throat is the Vishuddhi Chakra. The beej mantra to awaken this chakra is ‘HUM’. Repeat it a few times and try and feel the heat generated.

Next is the Ajna chakra which is located in between the eyebrows. Repeat ‘OM’, 7-8 times to awaken your third eye.

Finally, without the fingers move your concentration to the crown of your head and focus on the Sahasrara chakra. There is not beej mantra to awaken this chakra. This is the space of silence. Stay here for as long as you can and try and feel the calm and oneness with the superior being.

At the end of the meditation, rub your palms together generating heat, cup your eyes and slowly try opening them. Fold your hands and say namaste before moving out of the meditative state.

Benefits-

In order for our bodies to function in an well, all of our seven chakras need to be balanced and which will allow our energy to flow smoothly through our bodies. It will also bring in a lot of relaxation.

Apart from this each chakra has it’s own benefits. Opening the Mooladhara chakra, you get over your fears.

Opening the Swadisthana chakra, you get over your anger, guilt  and so on. Refer to this article to know and understand all benefits;
