I have a strange ability. They say everyone has something unique about them. For some it’s their talent, some it’s inborn. For me, it’s a God gift and yet an odd one. I can look different in every picture of mine and have often heard from acquaintances that I look different each time I meet them. I don’t think I have any inherent style, I usually dress to my mood and sometimes get influenced by people around me.
If you’re a little-lost as to what I am blabbering, let’s have a look at the many ‘avatars’ I don!
Being a woman I love to dress up. I love my western outfits and even though I am a mom to two boys (almost 10 and 4.5 years of age), it has never hindered my spirit to dress up. I love to look pretty! I am a fashionista!
Fitness is foremost. A fit mind and a fit body is what gets me through most of my days. I am a fitness enthusiast!
Aha! Got you there! And you thought you had me all sorted out, a mom, a fitness enthusiast, and a fashionista. There is a lot of Indian culture influence in me. I might wear western clothes, might run marathons and go for international trips, but I am very deep-rooted. I am all the above avatars rolled into one! I am not unique, I am but a face in the crowd, yet holding my own. I am a modern Indian woman!
Let’s break the stereotypes!
I can wear shorts and still be an awesome mom!
I can run a marathon and still be lazy! (haha…this wasn’t what you were expecting here!)
I can wear a saree and still have a very modern outlook!
I can be anything I want to be, wear anything I want!Don’t let my clothes or my looks define me.
I am me, I am unique!
I bet you can’t figure me out!

Me, myself, hates being stereotyped. But then, no matter how many times we tell our self not to, sometimes we still can’t help but to ‘say something’ about someone on what they do, on what they say or how the things are with them. I view it as a first impression but I don’t believe that it lasts. And I don’t see it as judging since it is what we see and it is our opinion. Stereotyping for me is limiting someone’s ability or capability just because of the first impression and that’s what I think is the bad thing about it. π

Judgement is the devil shining through. I am guilty at times with judging people, also with stereotypes, but I do not try to express my opinions with anyone else. Better to keep them within myself. Thank you for posting this, and inspiring me to be a better person!

Stereotyping is unfair. Knowing that, everyone should stop worrying about being stereotyped. Instead of succumbing and making it justified, show what you are capable of with dignity.

I know for sure that you are so capable and more. Absolutely loved your fashionista role play here. And I too wish we could break our stereotypes. Great post

Awesome!
We live in this modern world that although we are adapting to the fast-pacing changes, it does not make us non-traditional. I think it’s part of every personΒ΄s upbringing, regardless of what you wear or your perspective towards things, there is still a part of you that makes you an amazing asset of your culture.

I have to start my comment with “You are really beautiful!” And you are a perfect representation of a woman who lives her life to the fullest. Women usually suffer from being stereotyped. When I was still working in a corporation and holding a managerial position, I was stereotyped as strict, boring, not fun and dominating.

Thank you Roselle, that’s so sweet of you :). Not only women, men should also not be stereo typed. It is unfair for all!

Love this blog post. It’s human nature to judge but it’s not always fair and right.
I love the front you’re using on your blog as well! What a friendly and easy to read font!
Keep up being a diverse person π

Thank you Sabine. I think we all like to categorise people to make our lives easy. But having suffered from it over the years, I feel strongly against it.

It’s absolutely frustrating to know that no matter how well you speak or how intelligent you are, they will just not get you if you wear something that conflicts their image of an intelligent woman.
Archana Kapoor says
You bet!!!

Yey for women empowerment!! We totally have a lot to offer and be very good at each one at the same time. Stereotyping women sucks and must be stopped at all cost.
