What is the most random thing you have done in your life? I believe myself to be a balanced person but sometimes I tip the other way. On cold wintry evening in Delhi, way back when I did not have kids, my friends and me had all gathered up in our usual hangout. We were the only married couple in our group and lounging together at a friend’s place with no agenda was a definite weekend do. But this weekend we were getting bored and boredom led to hunger pangs. Suddenly there was a lot of activity and everyone wanted to eat out. So where can we go.
No, no !! I am not going to that Italian restaurant again! I am super bored of the same place.
But you said you liked the food there!
Yes, but four times in two months is too much !
Ditch, fancy places! Let’s go and eat at a dhaba!
Yes, yes and yes!
We all agreed, good Indian roadside food has it’s own taste. So then it came down to which dhaba and it was decided that dhabas on Jaipur-Delhi highways serve excellent food.
Let’s do something more interesting. If we are going all the way to the highway, we will take another 2 -2.5 hours and we will reach Jaipur. How about a quick weekend getaway?
You guys are crazy! What about bookings?
We will spend the night in any place we get beds and then roam around in Jaipur in the day and drive back.
Sounds like a plan!
But we don’t have anything, not even a toothbrush to carry?
Ok, I have a suggestion, everyone take the next 1.5 hours to go back to your respective homes, pack your bags and we meet close to the highway and head out!
Now you’re talking!
That was that. We got up and as decided we packed and left in 1.5 hours. Two cars and ten people. It was not the most comfortable ride but it didn’t matter at that time. Reached Jaipur late at night. Parked ourselves at Rajasthan Tourism Guest house, as only that was available so late in the night. The next day we saw the Hawa Mahal, shopped at Johari bazaar and had lunch at the City Palace. All so impulsive and exotic.
When I look back I can’t help but wonder where those carefree day are gone? Even if we want to we can’t just take off or can we? With the new Honda Jazz launch, I was reminded of our fun trip to Jaipur. With it’s ‘magic seats’ folding both ways, I couldn’t help but wonder if it was available in those days, how comfortable our drive could have been and at a price of 5.3 lakhs it is but a dream compact SUV for all youngsters, who have just started their careers and aim to buy a SUV.

Hi Prerna,
Indeed wonderful write up. The fun that we have left way back in our life never come back however; they will be always in our memory. I have also such memories behind my mind and I use to miss those days of unlimited fun.
I like the way that you have connected the review of Honda Zazz at the end. Wonderful. π
Thanks!
