We had all switched to emailing, chatting on Yahoo messenger and it was neat, easy and instant. No more waiting for days to receive the letters. Slowly emailing also faded. I mean after reading and replying to over 100 mails at work, who has the energy to write a personal one to friends and family. Plus where to find so many words, it’s just easier to drop two lines of sms to them and let them know you miss them and all is well. Why not call? Oh, that makes it expensive and that would require you to be answering a lot more questions and you have to be in the right mood and space. Whereas a sms even at 10 in the night when you’re partying with friends ,to say ‘good night!’ to family works well. They won’t bother you after that and feel safe too. So slowly smsing has taken over emailing, like emailing took over letters.
hand, but as usual I have been occupied with
nothing but you: I wish I could say in an
agreeable manner. I am tormented day and night.
They talk of my going to Italy. ‘Tis certain I
shall never recover if I am to be so long separate
from you: yet with all this devotion to you I
cannot persuade myself into any confidence of
you….
You are to me an object intensely desirable — the
air I breathe in a room empty of you in unhealthy.
I am not the same to you — no — you can wait —
you have a thousand activities — you can be happy
without me. Any party, anything to fill up the day
has been enough.
How have you pass’d this month? Who have you
smil’d with? All this may seem savage in me. You
do no feel as I do — you do not know what it is
to love — one day you may — your time is not
come….
I cannot live without you, and not only you but
chaste you; virtuous you. The Sun rises and sets,
the day passes, and you follow the bent of your
inclination to a certain extent — you have no
conception of the quantity of miserable feeling
that passes through me in a day — Be serious!
Love is not a plaything — and again do not write
unless you can do it with a crystal conscience. I
would sooner die for want of you than —
Yours for ever

Loved this one!I was an avid letter writer, internet totally to blame for this magical way to communicate fading away. I would love if something can revive this method again!
I miss writing letters too. Although e-mails do the trick, the personal touch of a letter.. is just beautiful 🙂
I loathe the current world….I agree with Ila. Internet has given us so much, but taken away so much more…I wish I could go back to my 80s and 90s 🙁
@Ila lets start by writing to our Boyfriends, husbands, kids….lets leave them little notes….and see if or not it will trigger them back into writing….!
@ Ritesh,I totally agree,i think most of us like to blog because we miss writing letters…
@ Confused soul….how many people do u email long letters to?I don’t think i do at all…very rare.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Nice post. I still have my old letters in a box, would love to sit and read them some day!

Loved the post! Went on a total flashback mode when Dad and me used to exchange letters.
Thanks Ajuli, thinking of getting back to writing letters.
Nostalgia ! Nobody writes letters now a days.
