EXPERT HELP
We went a step ahead and consulted renowned dermatologist Dr. Falguni Shah, from Radiance Skin Clinic, and this is what she suggested;
Always apply a sunscreen with a minimum spf of 30 prior to swimming. Even on the covered parts. The swimming cap is a must. Also apply any serum to the hair so that the chlorine water doesn’t damage them. Post swimming have a thorough shower, body and hair and do use a mild shampoo and body wash for the same. There is a lotion called ‘After Sun’ which should be promptly applied after swimming. ( available with Boots/ Galderma etc). Keep your skin moisturised. Having said this, no sunscreen in the world can protect you totally from the sun so try to swim after 5 pm. Use covered costumes as much as possible. Also start taking anti oxidants as vitamin supplements which act to an extent as oral sunscreen.
For post 5 pm, a simple moisturizer / body lotion should be applied. There are several antioxidants in the market. Meet a dermatologist to get it prescribed as per the weight and body type. They are safe and can be taken long-term. In our clinic we do several de-tanning procedures depending upon the degree of tan. TheĀ oral vitamins and prescribed and topical procedures like epidermal peels, laser toning, electroporation are done. Summers are to be taken carefully where skin is concerned.
What are anti-oxidants?
They are fat soluble vitamins that help in absorbing toxins.
Can these measuresĀ be used for kids as well?
Ā Yes, the skin and hair care is same for kids. Only difference being that for kids you need to use a kid’s sunscreen.
Since I went through this problem myself, I have worked hard to find a solution. If you have more to add this and know of a sure shot way do let us know and we can add it to our blog. Hope you will try the above and do let me know if these helped. Ā
