A little offbeat topic, yet extremely essential, coming from a veteran like me you can be rest assured that what you will read here will be extremely useful. The reason, I thought of doing this post was that there are a huge number of people like me who are so focused in what they do, that they lose consciousness of things around them. If I put it bluntly, they are lost in their own world. I have now had a track record of losing one mobile every six months for a few years. So, I can’t give you advise on how to not lose one (lol!) but what to do after you have lost it. Let’s get to the first things first.
Things you should do when you buy a new mobile;
1)Get your Mobile insured– There is mobile insurance available now which secures your mobile against loss, theft and damage.A much needed instrument. The insurance for devices unto 45-60 thousand is as low as two thousand for a year. Some leading companies are New India, Syska, One Assist and the likes.
2)Sync your contacts,your calendar and your photos to your Google accounts: This has always been the biggest pain to me every time I have lost a mobile. So even if you lose your phone you have a backup on google for this. And can be accessed in no time.
In Case You Have Already Lost it
1)Try and locate the phone: The chances of this are slim, but why give up without trying? Send an SMS with the text “android lost register” to your phone. This SMS can be sent from any phone. This will trigger Android Lost to register itself using your Google account credentials. For the next few steps please refer to this site.
2)Erase the data on it and ensure the phone cannot be misused:There are multiple applications that allow all the data on the device to be erased even if you don’t have access to the phone. You just need to register with them. You are allowed to back it up again remotely before wiping it as well. Start here.
I hope you have found these tips useful. Newer applications are on their way and soon, losing a mobile would be easier to track and recover. Until then we have to depend on the above. Signing off for the day :)!!
