Giving birth to a new life is one of the most complicated tasks there ever was. There are so many doubts in the mind of the mother. You think twice before doing anything. Plus there are so many myths associated with the process of birth giving, that nobody wants to go wrong. So today, we’re going to bust some myths related to pregnancy. Keep reading if you’re expecting and tired of calling your Doctor every other minute.

Myth No.1- You should eat three meals a day– Wrong! Instead, you should be eating six to seven times a day, every 2-3 hours to keep your blood sugar constant.

Myth No.2- You can have a drink– Wrong! It’s been found out in numerous studies that alcohol can lead to a higher risk of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASDs).

Myth No.3- You can only have Decaf coffee– Wrong again! It’s perfectly okay to have a cup of coffee every day.

Myth No.4- Cheese is a no-no when you’re expecting– Wrong! That’s not necessarily true. But just make sure that you pick pasteurized cheese like cheddar or Swiss.

Myth No.5- Eat more than usual since you are feeding two people– So wrong! An average pregnant woman requires an extra 300 calories but don’t just stuff yourself.

Myth No.6- Stay away from Seafood– Wrong! It’s not the seafood that’s bad but the bacteria you might ingest from the raw seafood.

Myth No.7- Tilting your lower body upwards after sex will higher your chances of getting pregnant– Wrong! There’s been no evidence that doing that will have any effect on you getting pregnant.

Myth No.8- You can’t take meds while you’re pregnant– Wrong! You don’t have to suffer through headaches and fever, however, consult a Doctor before taking any meds.

Myth No.9- No Workout during pregnancy– Wrong! A mild workout is actually good for you and your baby, however, avoid exercises that involve you lying on your back.

Myth No.10- No coloring your hair during those 9 months– Wrong! However, it’s best if you skip it during the first trimester but then vegetable dye over permanent or semi-permanent ones is fine.

Myth No.11- Sex 14 days after your period will definitely get you pregnant– Wrong! The period cycle of every woman is different, so it’s not guaranteed that you’ll be most fertile during that time.

Myth No.12- No gym during pregnancy- Wrong! Low-intensity workouts will actually help you keep your weight in check and prepare for the baby.

Myth No.13- Say goodbye to Manicures- Wrong! You might feel a little nauseous because of the fumes. So manicures during the less crowded time of the day are fine and if you’re still confused, pick out products absent dibutyl phthalate.

Myth No.14- Saving up prior to sex will higher your chances of getting pregnant– Wrong again! It’ll actually decrease the possibility of you getting pregnant since sperm count is seen at a 24-48 hr. interval. So just do it whenever it feels right.

Myth No 15- You’re never getting rid of those stretch marks– Wrong! Regular application of anti-stretch marks oil containing which contain Vitamin E, Lavender, Calendula and Rosemary such as Bio Oil really aid in reducing stretch marks.

While researching all above, we got in touch with the leading gynaecologist, Dr. Kiran Coehlo and verified all the above mentioned. She had something to add to this;

In India, people have been giving advice since generations. While some of these might be true, others have no scientific backing, for example eating iron during pregnancy makes the baby dark. These myths vary from culture to culture and have been passed on from one generation to other. I would urge everyone to never pay heed to these myths, instead consult your doctor for everything and never indulge in self-medication. One must read as many books as possible to acquire knowledge about pregnancy, attend pre-natal workshops and ensure that whatever they do, they must never forget to enjoy their pregnancy.
