DIY Decoupage Happiness Jar: A Perfect Gift For Christmas

DIY Decoupage Happiness Jar: A Perfect Gift For Christmas

The season for crafting and gifting is already here!

Here I am with a simple decoupage happiness jar for making this Christmas ever so special! A Happiness Jar is a practice started by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love to write notes on your happy moments of the day/week and collect. At the year-end when you open these and reread it will bring a smile and much joy to recollect all these moments.

You all would know by now that decoupage works on almost all the surfaces. Simple snippets of tissues stuck onto a surface with superglue can transform even the most mundane of household stuff into something classy and arty. Also, decoupage is a great craft for the whole family to get involved with.

There were some Mason jars lying around or peanut butter jars for making these too. They make for great handmade gifts too!

So let us get started.

We need prints of the creative you want on the jars, Fevicol, or Fabric Glue, brushes, 3D glitter, White, Green and Black acrylic paints, Mason jars, and scissors.

Clean the mason jars. Choose a print which will form the base for the decoupage.

I have taken a snowman. I thought that some fir tree around the snowman will look nice. So I painted them on the jar with green acrylic paint and snow with white acrylic paint.

Cut the snowman neatly with either a scissor or tear it. I would recommend tearing as the uneven edges are easier to blend into the background.

Paste the snowman on to the jar with either Mod Podge or a diluted mix of Fabric glue. Let in dry. Seal it again by brushing Mod Podge on to it. Let it dry. Now apply a thick layer of Fabric Glue all over the jar to and use a kitchen scrub to create texture.

Let it dry. Apply 3D glitter all over the textured area. Let it dry. Enhance the feature of the snowman with acrylic colours.

Our Happiness Jar is ready!

Isn’t this trippy? And it looks ever so ethereal!

There are numerous DIY art and craft ideas in the store which can make this Christmas for you a special one! Do indulge in some creative crafts this holiday season with the family! Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
