This Year, Let’s Celebrate An Eco-Friendly Diwali

Diwali is the festival of lights and don’t we all love Diwali for the joy it brings, for the fun of bursting crackers, sweets we get to eat and mostly for the family gatherings. For celebrating the win of good over evil we create another evil ie the pollution and the mess. There is a serious need for us and this generation to move towards an Eco-Friendly Diwali and make this planet a better place for us to live in. I am not only talking crackers and no it won’t kill the fun or the joy. How can you simply move to an Eco-Friendly Diwali? This is how;

 From Diwali Decorative lights To Diyas

Since there is so much awareness around about global warming and how the ozone layer is just depleting day by day. Taking that into consideration I think we should all start becoming traditional and light diyas like the old times. Lights need electricity to light up which in turn is only harming the environment.

Donate The Old Clothes And Things Instead Of Just Dumping Them

Diwali spring cleaning is a good concept but ever wondered how much garbage we add to the world? What can you do? Donating what you don’t need to people who are in need 0f it, brings you inner peace. Indulge in the noble cause on a special occasion like Diwali!

Cut down with crackers with other fun options like collect waste from taking a walk and have a bonfire in an open space

Definitely cut down crackers that are harmful to the environment. Don’t burst too many crackers. Instead, You can go for a walk and try collecting little pieces of plants and tweaks and you can later make a bonfire and burn all of the dirt in the bonfire in an open space. This way, you are not burning crackers and also helping to clean the environment.

Use Natural Colours For Rangoli

Try not buying the artificial and unnatural colours that you get outside. Rather, opt for natural colours which will save you a hell lot of money and also won’t be harmful to the environment.

For white, use rice powder. Yellow: Pulses or turmeric. Brown: Cloves or cinnamon. Green: Cardamom (chhoti elaichi) or fennel (saunf). Red: Dried chilly or even kumkum, if you wish. You can even make a rangoli out of fresh flowers — their fragrance is sure to create the perfect festive ambiance.

You can decorate the doorway with garlands of marigold and jasmine and set up vases of roses and lilies. They will enhance the beauty of your house way better than the paper streamers and artificial lights would have.

Try Making Homemade Sweets

Diwali sweets are great and are my absolute favourite. The variety of sweets that you get to eat is unbelievable. I am a sucker for Diwali sweets but I prefer making my Diwali sweets at home and so should everyone. That way, you can trust the sweets that you are eating to be pure and also be safe from harmful substances.
