7 Tips To Make Your Home Monsoon Proof
That earthy smell, droplets on your car window making the world seem all beautiful as if God has changed our eye lens and the atmosphere cooling down are all things I love about monsoons. When you feel like eating ‘pakoras’ and sipping that cup of tea little longer, you know that monsoons have arrived . As much as we love monsoons and can never get enough of it that may not be the case with your home. Our homes share a love-hate relationship with rains. While on one hand everything’s looks fresh and clean, our houses don’t do well when it comes to monsoon. Small, simple yet elegant changes can make your home monsoon ready. Fret not because we’re here to make your home as ready as it can get to welcome the monsoons with open arms. Sharing with you 7 simple tips to make your home monsoon proof;
Drapes– Pick light fabrics for drapes. Usually, fabrics with a synthetic blend such as georgette or chiffon work great. For colors, corals and bright colors such as orange or yellow are your best friend in the monsoons. Say no to heavy drapes because once they get wet, they’ll take ages to dry. Light fabrics will not only make your house look more vibrant but are low maintenance as well.

Away with Dampness– The most common problem in monsoons and to avoid it, whenever it’s not raining, never shut the windows. Keep the windows open to let the daylight in. It will also eliminate the damp moist odour. Scented candles will also help you do the same while introducing a pleasing fragrance to your home.
Stain Proof the Floors– Footprints, watermarks are a common sight at any home during the monsoons. Well not anymore; place a good absorbent doormat on the entrance door. Also, keep a bucket for anyone to keep their umbrellas before entering your house. These were the preventions but make sure to keep the floor always dry. Use an anti-bacterial cleaner to wipe the floors.

Fancy a Rug– All your beautiful carpets with intricate designs, velvet fabric will just end up getting ruined in the monsoons. So you better lock them up. Rugs are monsoon-friendly as they dry quicker and are warm to touch as well.
Wind chimes– well these may not sound an essential piece to you now, but they certainly add a mystical touch to your house. Imagine sitting in the balcony or by the window, when the rains have just stopped and a soft breeze is flowing, the light tinkling of the chimes will certainly make your day. You can also use some hanging interior decoration pieces as well.

Make up your kitchen– when the whole of your house is getting a makeover, the kitchen deserves some love as well. You can add some colours to the containers. You can also a get yourself a new set of chinaware in bright colours. These days you can easily find kitchen containers in a variety of bright colours.
Furniture– the constant damp winds can damage your furniture, so they require some special care. Soiled surface when comes in contact with dampness can lead to mold growth. So make sure to keep your leather couches clean and dry. If you have the option, store away your expensive furniture pieces.
