HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR BABY’S SKIN IN WINTER

How to take care of your babys skin in winter

We have all grown up watching advertisements that say ‘smooth like the baby skin’ and wish to have that skin for ourselves. I too would have gone on believing this if I had not had babies of my own. Eeshan, my elder one, suffered from eczema as early as his first year. I was shocked as all the soaps and baby baths that I had been using claimed to be mild but were actually drying his skin further.

I am sure most of you like me didn’t know the fact that a baby’s skin loses moisture up to five times faster than adults. This causes their skin to become rough and dry and vulnerable to damage. This is also the reason why mothers find dry skin patches on their baby within the first 12 months. This dryness and damage becomes more prone especially during the dry winter months.

Today I am partnering with Baby Dove to share some helpful tips on how to take care of your baby’s skin in winter that is delicate and sensitive –

  1. Clean Well but keep it nourished-

Conventional bar soaps and some bubble baths tend to be alkaline, which may dry out or irritate baby skin. What my doctor advised for my kids was to use a product that was pH-neutral as well as mild. We have been using Baby Dove’s products since the launch in October for my younger kid. Baby Dove’s rich moisture bar is PH neutral and that makes it good choice for babies. What’s more, the moisture rich formula ensures that my baby’s skin in winter stays thoroughly moisturized. He just loves the smell of the soap and the lather that the soap creates and I love the way his skin smells and feels after a bath.

  1. Reduce the bathing time in Winters but do remember to bond once in a while:

Experts say that bath time can be used for bonding with your baby. While my kid is five years now, he still likes to spend his bath time playing with his bath toys just like the way we used to bathe him when he was a baby. Though he has a bath on his own, I ensure that I bathe him at least once a week. This gives us time to interact, bond and I also get to check skin concerns, if any. But during winters, longer time spent during bathing can lead to even drier skin. So moms, I suggest that bathe the little ones yourself in winters, so you can keep a tab on the time they spend in water and use the time to bond with them. It’s a win, win!

  2. Nurture Your Baby’s Skin in winter with love and moisturisation –

Every bath takes away moisture from your baby’s skin, leaving it dry and rough. I would suggest using the Baby Dove Nourishing Baby Lotion after the bath to lock in moisture. It soothes dry skin from the first use and replenishes the essential nutrients and moisture lost during cleansing. Young kids and babies have sensitive skin, so their skin needs more nourishment especially in the winters. This light lotion ensures that his skin remains moisturized all day long. Massaging also ensures that the lotion is absorbed well into the skin, and helps relax the baby, also soothing him into slumber. Additionally, massage helps in weight gain, aids digestion, improves circulation, and eases teething pain and is a great bonding factor.

Though the lighting is different in the snaps, as they were shot at different times of the day, you can see the difference after the Baby Dove moistursing cream was used.

  1.   Know the products that you use –

It is important to know the product ingredients that you use for your baby. I always make it a point to read the package of the products. Baby Dove’s products are hypoallergenic, paediatrician and dermatologist tested, pH neutral and gentle to the eyes with a mild and caring fragrance specifically developed for delicate baby skin. Baby Dove’s Rich Moisture range has been developed for babies with normal to dry skin and goes beyond mildness to actively replenish lost moisture and nutrients into baby’s skin.

Moms, hope you find these tips useful. If any of you have tried the Baby Dove’s products and have a feedback, we would love to hear from you. If you have any experiences to share of your own on how you care for your baby’s skin in winter, do share in the comments box.
