Diapering ….a solved mystery!

I have been writing a lot about Pre teen kids and toddlers but today let’s deal with new moms and babies and let’s see if I can reduce some of their worries;
All about Diapering…
Something that you will discover becoming a very important aspect of your life.

There are two schools of thoughts here; One that believes that diapers for babies should only be put in the night or if you are out of the house. That baby skin needs to be exposed to air as often. Well, here I agree with them.

The second school, a more lazy and practical one, like me believes in bringing up a diaper baby.

Both are fine, first one needs more work, like washing cloth nappies, cleaning poo and pee all around if it leaks till your baby is toilet trained. Toilet training too happens not before the baby is 1 and 1/2 years (if you are lucky!), in my case my elder one got trained only after he was 3. For my elder one I followed the  school 1, thanks to my mom persistence and Ahaan is from school 2(my choice!). Both have survived diaper rashes, Eeshan with nights of sleeping without diapers and such pain(Aah!), Ahaan peacefully with correct process that I learned by the end of Eeshan’s toilet training. So that’s what I am going to share with you and then it’s your choice to follow whichever school you like.

Now the things you will need for diapering are; A good cotton feel diaper, a nappy rash cream, a change sheet, nappy changing station(if you are very particular), baby wipes(preferably, I don’t like using cotton though it is a cheaper alternative).
The brands I have used and will recommend-

Diapers-

  • Brands I like are Pigeon and pampers(active baby and magic gel). This is what I got staying in India. I am sure there are better alternatives. Please to share your tried and tested ones in the comments.
  • If you are going to keep the baby a lot in diapers you should always use diapers a size larger than what fits.So while my baby easily fits in M, I use size L. The funda is simple, to keep air circulation and so that the wet diaper doesn’t directly touch the baby bum, thus avoiding nappy rashes.
  • Change diapers after 4-5 hrs or when you see they are wet. A lot of brands have a diaper change indication line on them(smart idea). Never let a soiled diaper stay for long, it’s a definite rash!
  • For good diaper practise, clean bum with wipes and apply nappy rash cream each time you do a diaper change.

Baby Wipes-

Wipes that are soft and moist and perfect are Johnson&Johnson. I love these. But there are plenty of options available in the market.

Nappy rash cream-

For daily use ,nappy rash cream from Mothercare and Sudocream(even better) work well. And they last and last for ages.

Magic nappy rash cream which removes really bad diaper rash with just one application is ‘DESITIN‘. It may seem a tad expensive initially but trust me once you see it’s effectiveness you will love it! A total must have!

Change mat and Change station

A plastic sheet (change mat) under your baby while changing a diaper is essential to avoid soiling the cot or your bed, wherever you are changing it.

  1. You have to do so many diaper changes in a day that sometimes it’s a pain and some parents like to opt for diaper changing stations to make it easier for them(I never used one ,but some of my friends love it!).

Hand sanitizer. Hand washing and sanitising before and after the changing is a sure way to take care of all those germs.Just keep a large bottle .
Perfumed Nappy bags-
These are disposable bags to pack your used diaper in and they  smell nice to dampen the smell of your pooed diaper .Great to use for travel and even can be used on a daily basis.

Hope the blog helps you solve…………….. the case of a soiled diaper!;o)!!!
p.s.: This is not a sponsored post. The brands that I have mentioned are the ones I really liked and used and they haven’t paid me for mentioning them ;)!
