The Movie PINK is no doubt a very powerful film and it has evoked different emotions across people.
I had been eagerly waiting for this movie, the day..from the time when I saw the trailer. It had something, which told me; I should watch this. Finally, after days of procrastination, we booked the seats & decided to watch it. I wanted my dad to accompany me. Even though, I have lived alone in Mumbai (supposedly, the safest city in India) for two years, he has been always worried about me and my whereabouts, he still will be after watching it… after all, he’s my dad. He actually liked it and appreciated the idea behind it. So foremost, let me make this clear, it isn’t the best movie made in the year 2016. It is a youth-centric movie. It is a movie which gives a social message and a courtroom drama unlike the typical Bollywood masala movie so I guess majorly people will avoid it. But it is something, every one of you must see.
What I loved the most about the movie (includes spoilers)… (a) The blank opening credits and the final explanatory visuals in the end and (b) the bonding and the friendship of the characters Minal, Falak and Andrea. When you start living alone, your roomies become your soul friends, your family which is depicted in the movie.
The movie here shows that the guidelines to judge a man & a woman are different. Moreover, if the man belongs from a rich class, the justice will be misrepresented. The similar example could be seen also in the movie, ‘No One Killed Jessica’. The movie’s first half is full of thrill and tense moments for the girls who just out for a regular night of fun. Post a rock concert they accept a dinner invitation from Rajveer and two others to a resort in Surajkund. Unfortunately, the evening takes an ugly turn for them after a couple of drinks. Andrea finds herself being touched inappropriately by Dumpy and Rajveer forces himself on Minal, despite her clearly saying ‘No’ to his advances. In self-defense she picks up a bottle and smashes it on his eye, leaving him bleeding. When the matter comes up in court, the defense lawyer Deepak Sehgall represents the girls and the film takes a dramatic turn. The movie in all questions the mindset of people and delivers the message of ‘NO’ to being touched even though she is a wife, a girlfriend, a slave or even a sex worker. That a no is a no is a NO!!! That single working women are not a catch. That friendly girls are not promiscuous. That a shared drink doesn’t mean a woman is available.
