Wet Hair Woes – 5 Tips For Haircare in Monsoons

Haircare tips for monsoons

As you are all aware, we at MaaOfAllBlogs are doing a monsoon feature and covering aspects like hair care, skin care and nutrition. Hair problems are so common during monsoon the increased level of humidity can damage your scalp. Today’s post is all about ‘haircare in monsoons’. We have roped in Dermatologist and Hair Expert Dr Sonia Mangal, MD at Myra Skin & Hair Solution, New Delhi, to give us a few tips. I have also added a few learnings over the years that I have picked up. Let’s not allow the rain to take away the shine of your beautiful hair.

Stop using the hair styling products

Some people are not blessed with naturally healthy hair so it is understandable to use hair styling products. But in monsoon it is advisable not to use them as it can cause dandruff. Due to humidity the chemical based products tends to make hair oily and greasy.

 Dry your hair Asap

Dry your hair as soon as possible in the monsoon. Very few of us know that in monsoon we lose around 200 strands of hair because we don’t dry our hair quickly. Wet hair swells, and in this state it is very fragile and therefore it’s easier for hair breakage or hair fall to occur. Drying with a hair dryer makes sense as leaving the hair to naturally dry will take a long time and can cause cold and headache.

Conditioning is very important

Condition your hair on daily basis as the humidity in the air lead to hair becoming dry, which makes the hair frizzy. Conditioning can help you to make your hair frizz free and it will be easier for you to manage your hair.

Avoid Dandruff And Oily Scalp

Wash your hair daily with a mild shampoo regularly to avoid dandruff. Another reason to shampoo oily hair daily is because shampooing can restore the volume of your hair. One home remedy which I picked up recently from the Kama Workshop, that I attended last week, was to paste a few neem leaves and add a pinch of boric powder, leave it for sometime and wash away with water. This helps in reducing dandruff.

Tip: If your hair is sweaty after exercise and have to rush out, try using dry shampoo

Massage your hair Regularly

Regular massage for your hair is recommended. Massage your hair with warm coconut oil or any oil and comb your hair for the even distribution of oil on your scalp and hair. This will make your hair smooth, soft and manageable. But don’t keep it for too long, to avoid oily scalp.

Follow these simple tips and your hair is monsoon- ready :)!
