Monsoon makes everything look beautiful and serene but Iām afraid we canāt say the same about your health. Your immunity level goes lower, the humidity in the air makes you more prone to infections and bacteria and then follow the diseases. So clearly, your body requires more care than usual to stay in its healthy state. We cannot stop kids from playing or from going to school; monsoon cannot bring our life to a standstill. My kids love to play in the rains and sometimes I let them be, as this is their age to enjoy and have fun. So while I donāt hold them back, there are certain things I follow religiously to keep my family and myself healthy during monsoons.
Keep Away From Infected Water
Potholes and puddles are a primary source of infected filthy water. Coming in contact with puddles can result in a number of water-borne diseases such as cholera, diarrhoea, influenza and so on. The best way to save yourself is by wearing rubber boots during monsoon. Avoid open shoes, heels or slippers.
Be The Cleanliness Queen
During monsoons, the air becomes so much more humid which can cause an irritable and itchy scalp. Make sure you and your kids donāt get your hair wet in rainwater frequently. Use a mild shampoo and give them warm coconut oil massages twice a week. Neem-infused oil is also very beneficial to cure infected irritable scalp. It will also help to get rid of dandruff. Moms, in your case, avoid colour and heat treatments during the monsoons such as bleaching, hair colour, perming etc. Make sure your kids wash their hands as frequently as they can because everything that they come across on a daily basis can be infected with germs and viruses. Keep a sanitizer handy and use it whenever you find yourself in a public area, be it the subway, supermarket or the mall.
Avoid Raw Food
Water-borne diseases are very common during the rainy season. Fruits and vegetables should be handled with extra care. Soak them in clean water for a couple minutes and then give them a good rub. Rinse and then bring them to use. Make sure you and your family eat healthy and clean food if you wish to avoid fungal and bacterial infections which can also cause diseases like Hepatitis and Cholera.
Increase Your Water Quotient
Drinking plenty of water is necessary for all seasons and monsoons are no exceptions. Drinking sufficient water will keep your skin moist & supple and as a result, the body will also stay hydrated and get washed of toxins.
Avoid Street Food
Street food is everybodyās weakness but please keep away from those open vendors during the monsoons. Your kid’s immunity becomes low during the monsoons and so thereās a higher chance of them catching any water-borne or air-borne diseases. So home-cooked fresh meals are the best during this season.
Use Mosquito Repellents
Stagnant water is a common sight during monsoons and with this come mosquitoes. They cite a huge risk to your health and so itās very important that you protect yourself. Apply a mosquito repellent each time youāre heading outdoors. I make sure to apply 4 dots of the 100% natural Good knight Fabric Roll-On on my sonās clothes. This ensures long-lasting protection from those pesky mosquitoes. Be it school or playground, he never leaves the house without applying this innovative product. It is non-staining and completely safe to use. Once applied, I can rest assured that my child will be protected from mosquitoes for 8 hours, even when he is outdoors.
Keep every nook and corner of your house clean so that it doesnāt invite any mosquitoes. This also eliminates the various breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
We have made this graphic chart for you to keep handy. Use this as a reminder and stay safe.
