Ye Un Dino Ki Baat hai: To My Teacher With Love

to my teacher with love

Education and teaching has changed over the years and I feel I am from that dinosaur era when kids used to be actually scared of teachers and their words were the last words. Do you remember being punished and made to stand in a corner holding your ears? Or maybe an occasional ear pull? I know that this generation kids or new parents will probably find it appalling and mostly teachers nowadays dare not do it but trust me I feel it built all our characters. We became rough and tough, knew how to deal with authority taking commands and also get our way out when needed. However, I am not comparing the two generation of teachers but have compiled incidents from some of our favourite influencers and sharing here today. Hope you can relive yours and as for the younger generation don’t be too shocked :)!!!

Prerna Sinha aka me from @maaofallblogs want to share an awkward school moment

I remember that time when we were studying a very uncomfortable chapter in those days- reproduction. We literally wanted to skip the chapter even though we were in an all girls school. All of us in class were worried, what if the Bio teacher asks us any questions? Mrs X, let’s keep her name Mrs X, she came into the class and drew a giant size uterus. Then she pointed at the diagram and told us,

Now, children look at my figure!

That was it, the entire class burst out laughing and the discomfort was lost.

@Zainab_Raazi recounts her school days and how she was caught red-handed;

I may sound and look like a ‘Accha bachcha’, but there have been times when I have bunked classes.
It was class XII, and one of my friends & I decided to bunk the music class, well because why not ?We were timing around the ground, when my friends class teacher spotted us both!She knew, it was definitely not a “free period”We both started running, as if we saw a ghost!

You won’t guess what happened next!

She started running behind us!!!

And, we were caught red handed!

It was a little funny & embarrassing but after a long lecture she let us go!

Namrata Sadhvani from @Namratabs recalls the time when she tried to bunk her PT(physical training) period

As a schoolgirl who was more into studies, elocutions and debates, I detested the PT period in the timetable and was constantly looking for ways to bunk the session. I was not into sports at all and thought my time would be better spent in the library. Of course, I used the periods excuse multiple times to my advantage once I found that the PT teacher had a soft spot for girls who had period pains – she would let them off easily. On one such occasion, I walked up to her and told her ma’am I won’t be able to play today coz I have my periods (I didn’t, I was lying). She turned out, looked at me in the eye and in front of the whole class told me “Beta, you used the same excuse last week too. You have to get more creative and find better ways to get out of playing!” I was so mortified at being caught out and my entire class, including ma’am burst out in laughter. Can never forget that!

And when her professor joined her in bunking;

In college we had once planned a mass bunk to go watch a movie. Our lecturer caught wind of our plans, and managed to catch us just as we were exiting the college. To our shock, he came with us for the movie, reason being “I wanted to see if the movie was worth bunking class for”. Suffice to say we never ever missed another one of his classes for the entire semester!

Jasmeet Kaur from @mommyvoyage in retrospect feels grateful to her college professor indifference

Since an early age I have been a shy girl. Even though I was never the kind of student who’d speak up or stand out on everyday basis, I have impactful memories with umpteen teachers from primary school until B.Ed college.

It was them after all who inspired me to teach and touch lives like they touched mine.
One teacher who I remember often is one who was mentor at B.Ed college.

By the time I reached college I had crawled out of my shell and was compering, hosting, organising a lot of events. While most of my friends, peers and other professors appreciated my work, I would await her feedback. She would say you were “okay”. In all honesty I would sulk in disappointment.

I’d prepare my lesson plans, come up with the most creative ideas and give my best at the lesson. Progressing to the word “good” from “okay” was an achievement.

Finally, on the last day I asked her why was she the only one who chose her words so miserly when it came to my work.

To which she replied – because I as a mentor I had nothing to teach you but I had to make sure you find it all within yourself. She said, you are now prepared to influence little lives and for that you have to keep learning. And truly learning happens when the spirit of competition and need for approval and appreciation is ceased. Have faith in yourself and do what you are meant to do!

So did we take you back to your school days?

Kuch khatti, kuch meethi aisi thi hum bachcho ki teachers ki lifestory.
