Diaper rashes?

If you are a diaper mom then it’s not an uncommon phenomenon but do you know that you can completely avoid this discomfort to your baby?

I have raised two boys and tried to do things right both the times but with my first one I had little knowledge and he ended up with rashes a lot of times.

That’s when after suffering many times and seeing my baby suffer I went to online forums, discussed with friends and googled to realise that I was doing a few things wrong. So here is your checklist to avoid diaper rashes;

Make sure you keep checking your baby’s diaper every few hours especially after a meal. All babies have a pattern and they typically make a noise while potty time. My kids used to find a corner and their faces used to tighten when. So look out for these signs. No baby should be left in a diaper for long after it has been soiled. If the baby is left in a soiled diaper for long it will cause rashes.
Even if your baby has not pooed make sure you change the diaper every 4-5 hours. A wet diaper can also cause rashes.
While changing the diaper you must clean your baby’s bottom using warm water and sponge or a baby wipe. If it’s a baby girl remember to clean from front to back to avoid abrasion or bacteria from entering her genitals. Do not forget to check the fold between the inner thigh and the genital area.
Let the skin air a bit or pat dry gently with a towel before you apply a barrier cream or lotion.
In case of rashes apply a good diaper rash cream while changing a diaper.
Let your baby have some diaper free time each day for its skin to breathe.
Do not make the baby wear a diaper that is too tight on his thighs.

I reviewed the Caladryl Diaper Cream by Piramal with Bubbles, my niece, and these are my findings.

Packaging: It comes in a white tube with a blue flip cap in a travel-friendly size. It is also leak proof.

Price: INR 184 for 40 gm.

Consistency- The cream is pearl white in colour and has the very thick consistency to form a proper layer of the skin.

Experience: Caladryl diaper rash cream is thicker and does not get absorbed and forms a protective layer on the skin. It contains a higher quantity of Zinc Oxide(10%) which helps in healing the rashes faster. Most regular creams have 2-5 % only. It helped in reducing redness which had happened in the inner thighs.
