IBM and Chef Watson -Cognitive cooking-Find-Of-The-Week

The world is ever-changing.As someone has said change is the only constant factor.A few days back I went for a molecular cooking masterclass and recently I went for a cognitive cooking masterclass.Move over Masterchefs, as Chef Watson is here to replace you.Chef Watson, is not a person but an application which IBM has developed in conjunction with http://www.bonappetit.com (a US website) using over 9000 recipes from their database. This helps it learn about dishes and ingredient combinations. Watson combines it’s understanding of what tastes people prefer and how the chemistry of different ingredients interact with these recipes. And comes up with classic and unique recipes.

We went and witnessed one such event held in Grand Hyatt Mumbai, where the hotel chef used one of Watson’s innovative recipes and came up with this unique dish.

For the recipe of Roasted Jackfruit click here

Let’s see with a simple example how it works?

Go to the Application page
Select Ingredients:For eg Carrot, beans, onions, olives (you can specify what ingredients you don’t want)
Select Dish type:For eg Salad,Vegetable,curry,Soup
Select Dish Style: For eg Thai,Indian,Chinese

Feed the data in the application.

Now what Watson will do is, it will generate a huge list of recipe suggestions, with a list of ingredients. proportions, and recipe steps to guide the user. While the beginning is classic recipes but the latter ones become more and more experimental. And some might not ever have been heard of.
Doesn’t that sound amazing and if you’re an experimental cook, you now can impress your friends with new and new dishes each time.
