Designing Your New Home? You Might Want To Check Out These Latest Trends In Interiors In 2017

Your home is a reflection of your personality and a place where your story is written. We spend 80% of our time at home, most of us. That’s why shaping and building a home that you and your family will like is so imperative. Did you know that like clothes home designs also have trends that change every season? I recently attended a session with the famous Interior designer Kanika Bawa arranged by Dr.Fixit. She shared her insights as an interior designer and the challenges she faces while designing a home where the owners want a design element without thinking of the practical difficulties they will face. That’s where she shared how she recommends home and design solutions with Dr. Fixit.

If you want to have a home that is slick and trendy yet functional and sound, you might want to check the below  home trends;

Craving The  Greens

With less and less greenery around the concrete jungles that we live in this trend of brining the greens indoors. More and more people want are painting walls in green and shades of green, putting indoor plants and even going for vertical gardens. These vertical gardens can give a whole new dimension to your home.

While building a vertical garden, things that need to be kept in mind are that the plant roots can break a wall and watering them can spoil it. So how can you achieve this without damaging?

Dr. Fixit solutions can help in first waterproofing the wall, then by creating a membrane on which the plants will be mounted to ensure support and no damage to the wall. These membranes act as protective skins to the wall. Finally, you will need to create a drainage system to cater for the water to flow away after watering the plants.

  1. Blue Spas

The ceilings of new homes are decreasing in height exponentially and we miss the sea and the skies while staying in buildings. Cool soothing hues of blue this form our escape route. What is also very interesting is that a lot of people are preferring indoor pools. While they look cool, maintaining and building one is a dexterous task. If not done well can also cause a lot of structural damage.

Dr. Fixit waterproofing solutions can help you here.

  1. Terracotta- Down To Earth

Warm materials such as terracotta tiles and structured walls built from terracotta are very in. Again something like this requires preparing your surface and flooring to handle these structures. Terracotta also tends to attract a lot of dust, germs, and fungus.

Then another trend is using scattered wood chips like sprinkles on the wall and other surfaces which require proper pre-treatment and finish. The edges need to be sealed.

  1. Cork

You heard it here first – cork is making a comeback. Not only is cork a stylish material idea that adds warmth and texture to spaces, it’s also ideal for absorbing noise in our increasingly large, open plan homes. It’s used in coffee table bases in combination with stone tops, and as solid cork stool or side table. While the cork looks awesome it is extremely porous and tends to absorb moisture.

It requires 3-foot vertical treatment of the wall.

  1. Marble Wallpapers:Marble adds a class to your flooring but the latest trend is to have marble on your walls and if you want to go reasonable with it try marble wallpaper. While slathering gold marble all over your home is an expensive habit, an accent wall of marble wallpaper is stylish.

Prep: Before wallpaper is applied the wall has to be prepped for it. Not only for smoothening for application but also for avoiding any bubbling in the wallpaper due to water seepage or flaking. Dr. Fixit waterproofing is your go-to solution for this.

  1. Escapism: Balconies and Open spaces

With an ever-increasing amount of time spent in front of a computer or smartphone screen during the day, there is a greater desire to create spaces in our lives devoid of digital distraction, something that gives you the feeling of openness and adds that extra design edge to your home.

Open spaces, balconies, and rooftops are thus gaining more importance and they are not mere outer spaces anymore, they are very much a part of your home decor, in fact, some of them serve as your party arena or your private corner and so they have to be designed with a little bit of glamour.

These glass ceilings, balconies have to be sealed well and require waterproofing before installation and then proper sealing.

  1. Jewel tones

Pastels hues are on the way out and they will be soon replaced by the tones inspired by metals, jades, and the cosmos. They will add a dash of sparkle and interest to your room. This trend can be observed in wall paints, in furnishings or even accessories.

Now with these tips, you are on your way to reinventing your home. Just remember, while a beautiful home is everyone’s desire for it to remain beautiful and sturdy in the long term you need to investigate, study and give it the required treatments.
