20 Indoor Activities For Kids On A Rainy Day

They say you can’t predict Mumbai rains. When, where and for how long will they last is unpredictable. While I love the rains and usually round up close to my balcony with my cup of tea, it is a challenge when it comes to keeping my kids entertained. On a regular day the city offers plenty of amazing options for kids but when the weather changes staying home can be a pain. If not in Mumbai, but still struggling to keep the kids engaged, whatever the reason you’re staying put, try one of these indoor activities  for kids and make your rainy day full of fun and laughter;

  1. 1. Baking is therapuetic and the idea of cakes and cupcakes gets them excited. We do this a lot as a family and it’s a huge creative outlet and bonding factor. Try this 5 minute brownie recipe, I promise you will love it.
  2. Improve their vocabulary with a simple game of Scrabble or hone their business skills with board games like Monopoly.
  3. Just play some music and get down to dance. I have always noticed giggles and bouts of energy everytime.
  4. Rains are the perfect time to get out those lovely activity boxes(Flintobox, Pod Squad box) that you have invested in
  5. Try our some DIYs with your kids, like newspaper craft, glass painting, balloon sculpting etc.

  17. Create a treasure hunt and put some witty clues about your family birthdays or incidents and get them to the task.
  18. Involve them in making some homemade slime and play dough. I don’t know of one kid who doesn’t like to do that.
  19. Read to them and be as animated as possible. Reading to young kids is the best way to ensure they will grow up.
  20.  Have an indoor picnic. When it is raining outside kids miss being active and that’s when an indoor picnic could get your young ones excited. They can even invite their friends and use the things they baked and cooked for the picnic. You can get creative and open a kiddie tent in your house and create a camping feel as well.

We try and update these activities and keep adding more activities for kids to this list, but if you have something to suggest, do comment in the box below and we will incorporate them as well. Remember to always have fun :).
