7 Dieting Myths Busted

As the new year begins, I am sure a lot of you have written down losing a few pounds and getting fit as one of your many resolutions for this year. However, we would definitely not like you to go on any crash diets and so this article. Dieting is when you restrict yourself to smaller portions of food in order to lose some weight or gain some weight. There are uncountable myths and misconceptions regarding dieting. Let’s clear a few;

MYTH: Cut back on carbs to lose weight.

FACT: Carbs convert to glucose which is a source of energy which our body needs. However, you can cut back on simple carbs but keep complex carbs on the menu. Complex carbohydrates, found in whole grains, legumes, and starchy vegetables, contain longer chains of sugar molecules, which usually take more time for the body to break down and use. This, in turn, provides you with a more consistent amount of energy.

MYTH: Skipping breakfast makes you gain weight.

FACT: If you are not hungry, first thing, listen to your body. When you are ready to eat, help yourself to a healthy option like oatmeal with fresh berries. In fact, Intermittent fasting can help you lose weight and reduce toxins in the body.

MYTH: Eating at night will make you fat.

FACT: Your body’s ability to gain weight is mainly about what you eat and how much, not when you eat. If you are hungry after dinner, limit yourself to healthy snacks. It’s better to eat than binge because you are craving late in the night.

MYTH: Being Thin means you are healthy.

FACT: It’s one of the biggest myths. While carrying extra weight will increase your risk for health problems down the line, being thin does not guarantee a healthy lifestyle. Rather, healthy eating and regular activity are good for you no matter what you weigh.

MYTH: Fasting can help you lose weight quickly.

FACT: Look at your daily diet for empty calories you can cut out, such as refined grains and sugary drinks. DO NOT cut out meals entirely, especially without a doctor’s supervision.

MYTH: You have to set modest goals if you want to lose weight.

FACT: No two people are the same. What works for someone else may not work for you. Losing weight is a process. Be ready to modify your plan as you discover what works and does not work for you.

MYTH: Slow weight loss is the only way to lose weight and keep it off.

FACT: Slow weight loss might not be the only option for you. Just be careful to avoid fad diets that promise unrealistic results, they may not be safe. If you are interested in a diet that encourages faster weight loss, be sure to work with your health care provider to make sure you are getting all the nutrients you need.

If you like it, then pin it.

Finally, we would like to reiterate not to follow any fads or fad diets but care for your body and keep it nourished always. Looking good should happen inside out if you want to maintain it for a long term.
