5 Fun Ways to teach kids science

Magic is just science that you do not understand, yet. I have always loved science for this very reason as a kid and I wanted my kids to love science too. To be curious, to explore. When I was growing my sources were my school books and sometimes that can get boring but today there are so many avenues and resources.

Let me share what I do to keep it interesting for my kids and maybe you can take a note from my experiences.

Do home science experiments with them

This is fun and simple. We had a book called -101 home science experiments to try and we would pick one every week and have a lot of fun doing these while learning the concepts without it getting boring. Also, I use a lot of activity boxes which have these experiments listed and watch webinars listed on HP Print Learn Center which has a scientifically designed curriculum that helps children build a strong learning foundation, master fundamental concepts, and new-age. HP Print Learn Center is helping thousands of parents prepare children for a successful future by providing easy access to a scientifically designed, age-appropriate curriculum. Their worksheets and webinars make science way more interesting than just reading school books.

Teach them to be good observers

So what do I mean when I say this?

Raise young explorers. Every time they ask a question instead of shushing them, use it as an opportunity to teach. Ask them why they think- The sky is Blue? Then explain them why. Always keep their curiosity up.

Let them come up with a scientific explanation, no matter how far away it is from the actual answer. Remember, you can always teach the right answer but this will teach them the right attitude to approach things. Play along and let them come up with a conclusion and hypothesis. Then if you can test this in a  controlled manner, be it an experiment or an actually googling the answer. Finally, tell them how well they did and explain the current hypothesis and always mention that maybe, what you are saying is right and a different outlook to the situation. So when you grow up, you can work on it and prove your theory. This will keep them intrigued. Ask them to make notes for future. Let them feel like real scientists. Get them fun science worksheets which will keep them engaged and keep their curiosity up all the time.

Raise Little Explorers

Make them visit Science museum

What better place to raise their curiosity than a visit to a science museum? Usually these museums have activities planned for them too. Let them spend a few hours, reading about theories and watching experiments and experiencing so much knowledge in one go. I love the planetoriom shows a lot. If your city doesn’t have one, make sure you add it to things to do when you travel. We recently went to the Frost Museum in Miami and it was just amazing. They spent hours following the Sherlock Holmes Trail, solving mysteries. Becoming paleontologist  and learning about everglades in the “River of Grass” exhibit.

Make Science Fun With Science Worksheets

By now you would know that I love using worksheets for kids. HP PLC Center has 12,000 + Progressive Learning Worksheets, 30+ Video Tutorials and Practice Sheets, Structured weekly content across 10+ subjects, Curriculum designed by early education experts and more. Sharing some examples of science worksheets for kids.

Watch science shows

Science shows can be a great help to improve natural curiosity in our kids about the world.  Studies have shown that educational science TV shows play an important role in enhancing child’s cognition and knowledge. Some suggestions are A Space Time Odyssey, The Bright Side, Science Of Stupid, Backyard Science, Planet Earth etc

There, these are all my suggestions and tools I have used with my kids to make science interesting for them and so glad to see my elder one pursuing to be an engineer and my younger one who is still young, starry eyed about being a scientist when he grows up.
