Easy Winter Workout Tips to Help You Stay Fit
Winter time does not necessarily mean that you have to compromise on your workout schedules and consume extra calories in form of fatty food. You can follow a good exercise routine even in the chilled weather by following the below tips for a good winter workout and stay fit.
#1 Warm Up Indoors Before Going Out For A Jog Or Walk
It is not a good idea to go outdoors right away when you plan to go for a walk or jog around the block. It is always better to warm up indoors by doing some on the spot jogging, push-ups, calf raises, lunges, squats etc to heat up your body a bit. A couple of exercises that include full body stretches help massage your muscles and release the pent-up tension in your body. You could do exercises like bridge, supine spinal stretches, knee hugs etc while you are still in bed. You could also have a cup of hot coffee or warm soup for the same purpose.
#2 Do Home Workouts
If the harsh weather conditions are making it too difficult for you to hit the gym or workout in the open air, you could switch to home workouts for a couple of weeks. Even if you have no exercise equipment at home, things could still be worked around. You could use a chair for leg climbers, squats. Alternatively, you could take support from a wall for doing squats, the hand pushes etc.

#3 Invest In Some Exercise Equipment
It would be good to invest in exercise equipment like; dumbbells, exercise ball, pilates, kettlebells etc. Having all this stuff at home would motivate you to work out every day right at the comfort of your home. You could also rent out a treadmill for a couple of months if you wish.
#4 Incorporate Fitness In Your Daily Routine
Instead of making excuses like. “It is too cold” or “I love the comfort of my blanket” think making fitness and workouts a part of your day. You could take a 20-minute walk in your office compound after having your lunch or evening tea. Walk around when you are talking on the phone. You could also take the stairs instead of escalators and elevators whenever you can. These little endeavours on your part would go a long way. If there is a gym in your office or near your office, you could hit the gym for a quick workout session after your work hours as once you get home, you might feel too drained and lazy to exercise.

#5 Plan A Mid-Winter Vacation
If biting cold is really not your thing, you could plan a mid-winter vacation to escape the chill. Go to another city or a tropical country that offers some respite from the snow and shivering. This way, you can not only take a break from your daily routine but also get your fitness regimen back on track. You could indulge in some swimming, running, jogging or hiking without having to worry about frostbite.

#6 Invest In The Right Kind Of Fitness Wear
The best-suited kind of activewear for winters are synthetic fabrics such as; Polyester, Nylon or Polypropylene. Wear tee shirts made out of these fabrics so that the sweat can evaporate easily. Layer up your tee with windcheater. Choose lowers with fleece lining to keep you warm and cozy. Layering gives more liberty of movement and helps to trap the heat while the synthetics allow the moisture to escape.
So, these were some tips that could help you work out better in the winter season. Did you like our seasonal survival guide? Please let us know in the comments below.

Wonderful tips from a fitness enthusiast like yourself Prerna! I prefer home work-outs, they might not be very prominent in terms of instant results like in gym but slow and steady wins the race.
