There has been a missing person’s report…..blogging world has been missing Prerna’s blogs…ha ha,caught you there! The reason for my sudden long absence has been my shifting from a 2bhk in Mumbai to a 3 Bhk. Ya,all you people in all other cities of India must be wondering what the fuss is about? But all Mumbaikars would know that each such step is a huge commitment to humongous emi’s.
Anyway that’s not the blog about,it’s more like how my life has changed so quickly.
See, we had a peaceful existence for the last 7 years in my 2 Bhk,two kids ,3 maids(cook, baby caretaker and a cleaning lady) ,a driver ,to top it all -a great friend circle .A mall, multiplex, restaurants, hospital, schools and even a 5 star Hotel all in the vicinity of 5 min.Only a half wit would want to dislocate from such a place.
Yet,we took the call as we wanted a bigger place ,better amenities for our kids.I think once our friends started getting posted outside Mumbai is when we started seriously thinking of it.
I undertook the project of designing and decorating our new house along with a dedicated team of designers, carpenters, painter ,POP guys and polishers. It was fun and exciting initially and then it just dragged on week by week.It finally took us five and half months to get it up and running.Everything in the house was new and looked perfect.I thought it would be easy to just move in with baggage since there was hardly any old furniture we were bringing in.We donated cartons and cartons of stuff. But when the packers had finished packing we had 95 cartons of accumulated junk and a few useful things too. It’s amazing how we had become hoarders without even realising it.
The Dday arrived and after a lavish Puja and lunch, boiling of milk and staying overnight ,we moved in.What I had expected to be a smooth move became a bumpy ride ,with packers damaging some of my stuff, trying to cut corners and taking forever to pack and unpack. Then settling in new maids,my driver absconding in the middle of all this when i needed him the most ,this was all turning into an ordeal that I hadn’t bargained for.A new house entails, shifting gas connection, phone connections, new cable or dish connections, new car cleaner, dhobi, whew!Kids are loving the new house and have also made friends here quickly….hubby Vikram is travelling forever. As for me,I am wondering is settling in a new place is actually unsettling life?
