10 ways to free yourself from negative emotions
Do you go into phases of low? I do many many times. There are days where I feel I have everything under my control and then there are days where I just don’t want to wake up from my bed. Those days I feel very anti social. As I am ageing, these mood swings seem to occur more often. We all desire to be happy in our life and I crave for nothing more than that. However, every now and then, negative emotions get in the goal of our happiness? Here are some ways that when practised consciously can help you overcome the negativity.
The best way to vent out negative emotions when you are feeling sad or depressed is to go out in fresh air for a brisk walk. This helps you get some Oxygen and get away from the stimulus or environment that is making you feel low or angry or frustrated. You get to channelize your energy in working out or jogging instead of shouting!! Last but not the least, exercise helps in releasing, the so- called happy hormones that can calm you down and cheer up your spirits. As a result, you can go back to life with a more acceptable and solution based approach!! Trust me the days I don’t exercise I feel the I hit the bottom. Even a simple run at times gives me a sense of achievement.
#2 Listen to lectures from influential people
Speaking out of personal experience, this is an easy to do and free method that works wonders.Just like you brush your teeth daily, bathe daily and wash dirty laundry, you need to cleanse your soul and your thoughts, as well. Listening to positive thought really helps you change your vision and methods of tackling situations.
#3 Read motivational novels
Reading helps to involve and evolve your thinking.Instead of wasting hours together on social media.Make out some time, each day to read motivational books. This helps you reprogramme your mind to ditch the negativity and see only the positive.
#4 Listen to your favourite kind of music
Music has been proven to have a direct impact on your state of mind. You can plug in your earphones and actually use music ability to influence your mood in a positive way. Start out each day by listening to some Vedic chants or morning chants followed by a play list of your favourites. Before retiring to bed, play some soothing instrumentals and experience the change for yourself. You can even dance and that actually uplifts the spirit more.
A smile is the simplest way to feel good about yourself and radiate positivity to those around you.Have you ever noticed how cold wars amongst family members can end with a simple smile!! Smiling helps to dissipate the negative emotions. You will hardly ever see me frowning.
#6 Watch your favourite light-hearted comedy series
Laughter is the best medicine for emotional pain.Watching a comedy show, for instance, can change your physical and emotional state by decreasing stress hormones, releasing happy hormones and boosts your immune system. So heading to your favourite Netflix is not such a bad idea, after all. Losing your sleep time over it, na, will have adverse effects. So yes, I am not telling you to go overboard.
#7 Respond, Do not react
Every situation you come across does not need a reaction.Hold back yourself from screaming or trying to explain yourself in the spur of the moment. Scientific studies show that emotional hurt and defensive responses last for no more than 20 minutes, beyond that, you are just sulking.Think about a situation and then, respond later when you have the correct words and reasons to tackle a situation.Keep your approach solution-based, always.
#8 Practice Mindful gratefulness
Being thankful for the people in your life, their good qualities and the facilities you have. Thrive on the good rather than the bad.I once read a quote that said, there are two wolves in you..one good and one bad. Which one is stronger, though, depends on which one you feed!! Maintain a journal and write all the good things that happened to you in a given day, no matter how low you are feeling.See for yourself how therapeutic, it is. Do not forget to let those around you know what you mean to them, it helps them understand you better and keeps them closer as well.
#9 Stop saying “I cannot”
You are perfectly capable of doing everything you want.Work hard, seek help, talk to people, use your soft skills and most things can be worked out!! Do not put limitations on yourself.
#10 Meditate and practice forgiving yourself and others
It is important to acknowledge that neither you nor anybody on this Earth is perfectly free from flaws! So, accept your friends and family, the way they are and love them for their qualities. This takes patience and practice but you will feel ecstasy when you learn to see the strengths and ignore the imperfections. Meditate to calm yourself and forgive others for the wrong deeds they did to feel liberated!
While I may have written these, it becomes difficult to practice these myself. I try and so should you. Trust me soon you will be a happier person. Smile and have a good day!
