It is considered a premier fashion event in India. It is run by Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and the title sponsor is Lakme.
For those who are wondering,what Lakme Fashion week is all about,some info;
This is the launchpad for new collections by old and launching fashion designers.Infact,it was the launching pad for Sabyasachi Mukherjee.It is India’s equivalent of Milan Fashion week.The first event took place in 1999 and international models such as Naomi Campbell and Indian film stars such as Deepika Padukone, Malaika Arora Khan, and Arjun Rampal have participated in it. International labels that have taken part in LFW include Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, and Roberto Cavalli. Key Indian designers like Manish Malhotra, Rohit Bal, and Ritu Berihave all been a  part of this event over the years.
LFW(Lakme Fashion week) 2014,Summer Resort collection was launched this year on 12th of March and will be a full fledged event till the 16th,at Grand Hyatt,Mumbai.This year it opened with designer Tarun Tehliani and Rajesh Pratap Singh will be closing the show with a grand finale on the 16th.Buzz is that none other than Kareena Kapoor will be the showstopper.
I am proudly announcing the launch of my friend,Prem Kumar of ‘KHEM’ label’s launch at LFW this year.To see his collection and his launch at the LFW this year was like a dream come true for all of us,who were cheering from the VIP rows for him.
His collection ‘Dreams in Prussian Blue’ was all about ladylike cocktail dresses and free flowing tunics.The silhouettes ranged from loose and airy to train back to figure hugging.What I liked the most was the way the designer has played with different fabrics ,there was Velvet,Georgette,nylon,satin.Each dress was like a story in itself ,yet it kept to the theme.Also very importantly ,though garments were heavily embroidered and tailored,the weightlessness of the garment was kept intact,which makes them easier to wear and maintain.
 A short note on the other collections and a quick recap on ‘KHEM’;

 AARTIVIJAY GUPTA, KHEM, ILK & VERB

Aartivijay Gupta: Aartivijay Gupta’s collection  drew inspiration from regal paintings.What was unique in the collection was that we have never seen a designer promote India and it’s paintings in this fashion earlier.I wish the silhouettes were a little more interesting though.

KHEM: The collection almost has a soothing and cool  effect on you. Khushboo and Prem’s collection for their label Khem was like a breath of fresh air — there were plenty of whites and a hint to blue.

ILK: There was a huge repeat of applique on mesh in the collection,the silhouettes were limited and boring.This collection by designers Shikha and Vinita, failed to inspire.

VERB: Pallavi Singhee’s collection was all about layering . The look and the feel was very indo western,with traditional embroidery and western cum Indian silhouettes,like matching a suits with a long jacket.The colours — grey or green, beige and maroon and black were not impactful.

MANDIRA BEDI, JADE & SUMAN NATHWANI

This was the launch year for Mandira Bedi’s designer label and her Video and the thought behind it was awe-inspiring.’Real women-real dressing’ was the motto and struck the chord pretty well.

She had real women pioneering from different industries walk the ramp for her .Jamuna Pai(leading dermatologist),Kiran Coehlo(leading gynaec) and a few CEOs under her belt ,it was a winner all through.

 The collection primarily brought forward contemporary designs for the nine-yard garb with bright colours like pink, orange and blue and satin, Georgette’s and silk as base fabrics.

Turn up the volume
-The collection can be best described as  quest for true style ,fusing elements from carefree vibe of the 1960s.Designed by Monica and Karishma of Jade, was all about soft pastel colours with metal detailing with voluminous silhouettes. The ensemble sported by showstopper Lisa Haydon is sure to make a mark in fashion circles with its interesting back detailing and subtle colour combinations — perfect for a Bohemian summer wedding.

Soak up the sun
Designer Suman Nathwani, who was celebrating her 25th anniversary in the industry with this show, brightened up the ramp with her resort wear collection high on sunshine colours like orange and yellow. The fluid collection that was all about chiffons, muslins, tulles and silk saw models strutting down the ramp in a range of bikinis, day gowns, kurtis, etc.
The cuts were simple yet effectful and bikinis on the bodies of the super toned models created a jaw dropping impact.

You liked what you saw?You can shop instantly at ‘Source’ a display area near the Grand Hyatt,where stalls have been put up by designers to enable you to buy off the rack. Ofcourse,please be pocket heavy as these are specially designed,intricately crafted garments with huge amount of man hours utilised to make each garment and do not compare it to the likes of a ‘Mango’ and a ‘Zara’ .Happy Browsing :0)!
